According to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) regulation, riverboats by definition have no possibility to release ground food waste in the waters they operate in, but it must rather be temporarily stored in tanks until emptied in port.

For those riverboats that indeed are permitted to release the ground food waste into the sea it’s good to know that Disperator food waste disposers within the product series 500, 500A, 500V, 500RS, 500EX, GTS-E65, GTS-Mini hold the DNV-GL Statement of Compliance with MARPOL Annex V for regulation of disposal of ground food waste at sea.

Alternatively, the food waste may be dry-grounded without the use of flushing water and collected in specific containers for easy disposal in port – a unique solution that Disperator will offer galleys in coastal traffic shortly.
